Registering ECTs for 2026/27

Registration Process

1. Appropriate Body - all schools are required to register with an Appropriate Body in order for an ECT's induction period to be recognised by the DfE

2. DfE Register Early Career Teachers Online Service (RECT) - all schools are required to provide information to the DfE regarding their chosen ITTECF-based training programme and Appropriate Body. 3. Training Programme Lead Provider - if a school chooses to use a 'provider-led' ITTECF-based training programme they will be instructed on what steps are needed to access the programme with the Lead Provider. Further information on accessing the 'provider-led' training programme through UCL working in partnership with Astra Teaching School Hub can be found on our ECTP page

Registration Deadline Dates

In most circumstances Astra Appropriate Body will commence induction for an ECT from the beginning of an academic term, schools are advised to contact Astra for guidance regarding mid-term starters. Schools must register by the following dates to ensure induction can commence promptly:

For September 2026 start: 18th September 2026

For January 2027 start: 15th January 2027

For April 2027 start: 23rd April 2027
